Samarkand is steadily solidifying its position not only as one of the largest historical and cultural centers, but also as a key international platform for discussing environmental issues and advancing environmental diplomacy.

On June 2, the grand opening of the international environmental exhibition, Eco Expo Central Asia 2026, took place at the Expo Center of the Silk Road Samarkand tourism complex. The forum gathered representatives from over one hundred states, international organizations, diplomatic missions, the investment community, producers of eco-friendly products, and developers of innovative environmental solutions, as well as representatives from government bodies and expert circles.Among the ECO EXPO participants was Suriya Turayeva, an Associate Professor at the Department of International Economics at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED).

The exhibition features over 68 thematic pavilions showcasing modern environmental technologies, equipment, and services. A dedicated space has been allocated for startups from Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries. The business program includes conferences, panel discussions, and presentations on pressing issues of climate change, biodiversity conservation, effective natural resource management, and the promotion of green economy principles.
