    An international scientific and practical conference on the topic “Problems and Solutions in Teaching Languages in Education” was held at UWED

    On May 20, 2025, to ensure the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-330 dated July 23, 2022, “On Measures for Systemic Reform of the Activities of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy”, to realize the tasks of UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 17, and to further develop science and enhance the effectiveness of research work at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), the Departments of Romance and Germanic Languages and Uzbek and Russian Languages organized an international scientific and practical conference on the topic “Problems and Solutions in Teaching Languages in Education”. Research scientists from Spain, Turkey, Azerbaijan and China took part in the conference with reports. It is known that the targets of SDG 4 are aimed at developing quality education and improving the methodology of teaching with the involvement of the general public, in particular, researchers, to implement these goals. The conference sections highlighted and discussed various issues, including: the implementation of modern information and pedagogical technologies that meet global standards; the development of innovative and effective teaching methods; the creation of next-generation textbooks and teaching materials; the development of methodological guidelines for newly created educational resources; mutual exchange and testing of new textbooks and teaching aids; multilingual education and translator training in the context of globalization; incorporation of simultaneous interpretation into educational programs; research and development in training personnel capable of simultaneous interpretation; and the creation and practical implementation of electronic resources. In addition, the participation of foreign partners in the plenary session of the conference reflects the practical implementation of the objectives of SDG 17, the issues of preserving the uniqueness of national languages as a value correspond to SDG 11, and the ideas of using artificial intelligence and modern technologies as an innovative tool in learning foreign languages reflect the objectives of SDG 9.

    In the period from May 10 to May 11, 2025, students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), together with teachers of the Department of Uzbek and Russian Languages, took an active part in events organized by the Center for Social Rehabilitation "Tabassum Inclusion". During the visit, the participants got acquainted with an exhibition dedicated to inclusive creativity, which presented the works of children with disabilities: drawings, handmade ceramics, decorative shoppers, as well as soap-based aromatic products. The exhibition was held from May 8 to 11 and became a vivid demonstration of the talent and creativity of children studying in inclusive education programs. UWED students, together with children and volunteers of the Youth Union, took part in a series of master classes on drawing, modeling, making crafts and creating souvenirs. One of the most heartfelt moments was the joint preparation of lemonade and treating visitors to the exhibition. Such events not only contribute to the development of communication skills and social adaptation in children, but also form a culture of inclusive interaction and social partnership among young people. Teachers of the department also contributed by taking part in a charity fair, where products created by the students of the Center were purchased. The proceeds are used to support the educational and rehabilitation programs of the Center. The Tabassum Inclusion Social Rehabilitation Center, headed by Shakhnoza Ikramova, provides comprehensive assistance to children with disabilities and promotes the values of inclusive education. The institution provides free education and rehabilitation to children not only from the capital, but also from the regions of Uzbekistan. The center has a convenient and safe infrastructure developed on the basis of the principles of universal design, which allows children to receive education in a comfortable and accessible environment. The participation of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in the activities of the Tabassum Inclusion Center has become part of the implementation of the university's mission to support sustainable development, promote inclusion and social responsibility.

    From May 5 to 9, 2025, Dilafruz Sodikova, Teacher at the Department of System Analysis and Mathematical Modelling of University of World economy and diplomacy participated in an international environmental seminar held in southern Kyrgyzstan as part of the Train-the-Trainer program. The event was organized with the support of the GIZ and HELVETAS (Germany) international organizations.  The seminar focused on key issues related to the development of a green and sustainable economy, including the rational use of natural resources, the expansion of eco-tourism, and the implementation of sustainable management practices. As part of the program, D. Sodikova delivered a presentation on “Promoting Green Tourism and the Importance of Expanding Environmentally Friendly Residential and Commercial Buildings.” The presentation highlighted the advantages of increasing the share of sustainable, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly buildings through the adoption of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification system. It should be noted that D. Sodikova was granted the opportunity to take a special examination organized by GIZ. Upon successful completion, she will be eligible to receive the status of a certified trainer in green and sustainable tourism. The topics discussed aligned with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation; 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy; 13 – Climate Action; 15 – Life on Land. Active participation in such initiatives contributes to strengthening environmental awareness and promoting sustainable solutions for the future development of Uzbekistan.

    Students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, led by teachers of the Department of Uzbek and Russian languages, visited the house-museum of the famous Uzbek poet and prose writer, academician Gafur Gulom. The house-museum of Gafur Gulom. is located in the Chilanzar district of Tashkent, which is located in the mahalla Beshagach. It was opened in honor of the famous publicist and writer Gafur Gulom.. The location for the museum was not chosen by chance. The two-story building where the museum is located was previously the writer's house, where from 1944 to 1966 he created his works and lived. The exposition dedicated to literary works and the memorial complex are located here. The main initiators of the creation of the house-museum were the children of the famous poet. A master class by Tashkent State University of Economics professor Lutfulla Ilkhamjanov was held in the house museum, where the scientist spoke about the life and work of the writer and introduced the participants to the exhibits of the museum. The meeting of three generations made an unforgettable impression, where future international lawyers learned a lot of interesting things from the life of the author of "Naughty". In the museum, divided into two parts, the students saw the house where the writer lived and a two-story building where the main exhibition is located. In the memorial part of the museum, visitors saw a large number of personal belongings of the writer. Here is also located his rich library, study and living room, where Gafur Gulom. met with his friends. An interesting place is the music room, where there are two musical instruments: tambur and dutar, which the owner of the house once played. On the first floor there are three halls, where exhibits tell about the everyday life and main creative milestones of the poet's path. The first and second halls describe, respectively, the childhood and youth of Gafur Gulom., his first creative attempts. The third hall is dedicated to creative work, there are many stands, materials from the poet's anniversaries. Household items that the poet used during his life are preserved, and in the library - the author's books and works donated to him. Gafur Gulom's work became the golden fund of Uzbek literature of the 1930-40s. His poems "On the Road to Turksib", "You are not an Orphan", as well as the story "Naughty", became an integral part of the literary canon and reflected not only the poet's personal experiences, but also the broad social and political realities of the time. The master class made a favorable impression on the students, the atmosphere of communication between the professor and the students and participants was very useful, informative, interesting and motivated.

    On April 25 this year, the teacher of the Department of Oriental Languages of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Gulnoza Khusainova met with students of the UWED studying the Persian language with senior students of the 71st secondary school in Tashkent.  At a meeting with schoolchildren, UWED students spoke about the role and importance of education in the life of every person. During the meeting, UWED representatives held a quiz on knowledge of the main goals of the SDGs, focusing on the tasks in the field of education - "Ensuring comprehensive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all". Schoolchildren noted that education is a key element, and today conditions are being created for receiving free, equitable and high-quality primary and secondary education, which allows achieving demanded and effective learning outcomes. Also, attention was paid to modern ways to improve the quality and accessibility of education based on e-learning. Schoolchildren highlighted the fact that recently there has been a significant increase in interest in open online courses, which has led to the formation of international educational networks and open education platforms. The teacher and students of the University told the audience that education and knowledge of several foreign languages play an important role in increasing mutual understanding between people and contributing to the formation of more peaceful societies. Students of secondary school No 71 thanked the organizers of the meeting, and expressed gratitude to the UWED students for the opportunity to learn from your experience.

    Student Olympiad on the Sustainable Development Goals at the UWED

    On April 22, 2025, within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Month, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy held an internal Olympiad among the first- and third-year students. The main objective of the event was to deepen students' knowledge, strengthen analytical skills, and enhance youth engagement in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Special emphasis was placed on developing a systemic understanding of the SDGs, their targets and indicators, and the ability to apply this knowledge in economic and social contexts. The Olympiad served as an important educational platform to encourage informed youth participation in solving global challenges. A total of 152 students participated in the intellectual competition. They were divided into teams and competed in four stages: 1.                SDG knowledge test — based on official UN documents, this stage assessed basic understanding of the goals, targets, and indicators of sustainable development; 2.                     Mathematical and computational tasks — designed to test practical quantitative and analytical skills; 3.       Microeconomics and Macroeconomics test — evaluated economic literacy and interdisciplinary thinking; 4.            Problem-solving round — each team was given an economic scenario and had 20 minutes to develop reasoned solutions. The results were evaluated by a competent jury composed of lecturers from the Department of International Economics: Head of Department, PhD, Associate Professor L.M. Tashpulatova; PhD, Associate Professor Kh.R. Karimova; PhD F.A. Bekmurodova; PhD S.A. Murtazoev; as well as from the Department of Systems Analysis and Mathematical Modeling: Associate Professor Sh.G. Umarova and Lecturer D.R. Khasanova. Based on the results, the winning teams were selected for their deep knowledge, logical reasoning, and effective teamwork. All prize-winners were awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts. The most significant outcome of the Olympiad was the development of a systemic perspective on sustainable development among students, the strengthening of their academic motivation, and their civic engagement. This contributes to empowering youth as key drivers of transformative change in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

    The Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG HUB) has been established at UWED

    On April 18, 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) established the Sustainable Development Goals Center (SDG HUB). This initiative was launched in accordance with the decision of the university’s Academic Council, the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the UWED Charter, and the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The establishment of the center aims to promote the SDGs adopted by the United Nations for implementation by 2030, especially among youth and university students, and to engage them in scientific, social, and innovative activities. The SDG HUB operates along the following key directions: · Organizing seminars, training sessions, and academic conferences on SDG-related topics; · Implementing social and environmental projects; · Developing educational courses and master classes aligned with the SDGs; · Expanding research and international cooperation; · Enhancing students' social engagement and leadership capacities. The organizational structure of the center includes: a coordinator (director), deputy director, advisor, secretariat, analytical team, moderators, and a public relations group. Positions are filled through elections among active student members. Membership in the SDG HUB is voluntary and open to both students and staff. The center functions in collaboration with international organizations such as the UN, UNICEF, and UNDP, as well as with local NGOs and other higher education institutions. Its funding sources include university resources, international grants, and sponsorship support. The SDG HUB serves as a vital academic and socio-innovative platform for UWED students, providing opportunities for initiative, leadership in sustainable development, and active contribution to achieving global objectives.
