Smart University
At the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the “Smart University” concept is being implemented within the framework of the objectives set out in the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. RP-330 dated July 23, 2022, “On Measures for the Systemic Reform of the Activities of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.” This initiative is aimed at transforming the university into a next-generation higher education institution through the introduction of modern educational approaches, digital technologies, and advanced management solutions across all key areas of university activity.
At UWED, the “Smart University” concept is understood as a comprehensive digital ecosystem that brings together academic, administrative, analytical, and service functions within a single environment. Its implementation is aimed at enhancing the quality of education, improving institutional governance, supporting data-driven decision-making, and creating a more flexible, transparent, and student-centred learning environment.
The “Smart University” ecosystem enables the digitalisation of key university processes, including academic management, service delivery, internal communication, analytics, and the coordination of institutional activities. It supports students, faculty, and university staff through integrated digital tools designed to simplify access, improve interaction, and strengthen institutional efficiency.
Digital Ecosystem
A central component of UWED’s “Smart University” ecosystem is my.uwed.uz, a unified digital portal that serves as the main access point to the university’s online services. The platform provides Single Sign-On (SSO) access, supports digital user profiles, ensures standardised authentication, enables centralised communication through official announcements and notifications, and provides users with access to information on their academic and organisational status. At the same time, my.uwed.uz does not replace the existing administrative platforms, but ensures their digital integration, unified access, and the consistency of information flows within the overall university ecosystem.
The platform also includes role-based dashboards aimed at strengthening institutional governance and operational oversight. These include dashboards for university leadership and academic units, as well as personalised user interfaces with access to timetables, service requests, statistics, booking options, and other essential digital services.
The Smart University ecosystem also includes a number of specialised digital platforms:
“Manage” (manage.uwed.uz) is a web-based platform designed to automate academic and administrative processes. It supports class scheduling, admissions-related processes, request processing, grant management, attendance tracking, faculty workload analysis, and the effective use of university facilities.
“Talaba” / Talaba UWED is an information system and mobile application developed for students and faculty. It provides access to individual timetables, attendance registration, notifications, requests and appeals, as well as academic activity monitoring, while also facilitating interaction with the university administration.
“Monitoring” platform is used to track academic and service-related indicators and helps ensure effective internal oversight.
“Ustoz” is a digital service developed to support faculty members within the broader digital environment of the university.
“Booking” enables the digital reservation of classrooms and other university spaces.
“Ticket” is used for processing internal requests and inquiries addressed to university departments.
In addition, UWED continues to develop digital solutions in such areas as services for international students, career support, “Executive Education”, and innovation infrastructure, thereby expanding the capabilities of its digital ecosystem.
Advancing the Smart University Vision
The implementation of the Smart University concept at UWED is focused on introducing new educational programmes and modern teaching and pedagogical methods, equipping the university with advanced digital technologies, developing proprietary software solutions for the digital transformation of education, establishing the foundations of an automated academic process, building a unified digital environment for students, faculty, and university staff, and improving the efficiency of academic, administrative, and service management.
Legal Protection of Digital Solutions
An important milestone in the development of UWED’s digital ecosystem was the official state registration of the TALABA information system (Certificate No. DGU 57461) and the MANAGE information system (Certificate No. DGU 57459). These software products, developed by the university, were duly registered in the state register in accordance with the established procedure and were granted legal protection as copyrighted works.
This achievement allows the university to officially use and further develop these systems, creates a legal basis for their further expansion and implementation in other organisations, and supports the long-term improvement and potential commercialisation of UWED’s digital solutions.
The state registration of the TALABA and MANAGE systems reflects UWED’s systematic approach to building, protecting, and advancing its own digital infrastructure and marks an important step in the practical implementation of the Smart University concept.
