French Language Club Members Attend a Screening of Short Films on Environmental Topics

On April 14 of this year, members of the French Language Club at UWED actively participated in a screening of amateur short films. The event was held at the Goethe-Institut in Tashkent in collaboration with the French Alliance of Tashkent, the Uzbek Amateur Film Makers Association (UAFMA), the Goethe-Institut, Interregio, and Archipop.
The screening was dedicated to short films on the environmental theme of "Water," created by filmmakers from various countries. It featured creative works by directors from Uzbekistan, France, and Germany, as well as films made as part of the "Engage H2O" environmental summer film school project, which was organized with the support of the European Union.
During the event, students not only became more familiar with the art of filmmaking but also expanded their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues, particularly water conservation, its rational use, and the development of a global environmental consciousness.
This event gave students the opportunity to work with authentic materials in French, participate in international cultural dialogue, analyze environmental topics in a foreign language, and develop intercultural competencies.
As part of the event, students spoke with Alix Clerc, the cultural events coordinator for the French Alliance in Tashkent. In their conversation, they received detailed information about the Uzbek Film Festival planned for October–November 2026, and the students expressed interest in the festival's preparation process. This will help enhance the students' capacity for active participation in future international cultural projects. The students also spoke with the Honorary Consul of Belgium, Jean-Claude Beaujean. The conversation covered the role of youth in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), environmental responsibility, and ensuring sustainability through education and culture. The students also presented the activities of the French Language Club and described its goals and objectives.
This event contributes to achieving the following Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 4 – Quality Education: developing students' knowledge and skills in an informal education setting;
SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: fostering environmental awareness on water conservation issues;
SDG 13 – Climate Action: highlighting and popularizing environmental issues through art;
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: strengthening cooperation with international organizations and cultural institutions.
For the students, this event was not just a cultural activity but also had significant educational and formative value. By combining international cooperation, environmental awareness, and foreign language practice, this engagement once again demonstrated the effectiveness of the French Language Club's activities. The students' active participation showed their commitment to global thinking, intercultural communication, and the principles of sustainable development.
