    UWED Hosts International Scientific and Practical Conference on Problems and Solutions in Language Teaching

    On June 4, 2026, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy held an international scientific and practical conference on “Problems and Solutions in Language Teaching in the Field of Education”. The conference is traditionally organized by the departments of European and Turkic Languages, as well as the Uzbek and Russian Languages. This year, it gained special significance due to the participation of representatives from prestigious foreign universities. The event covered areas such as teaching philological disciplines in higher education, the didactic potential of artificial intelligence tools in foreign language instruction, strategies and methods for ensuring quality in modern language education, current challenges in foreign language teaching within the context of intercultural communication, and cognitive, neurolinguistic, and digital approaches to interdisciplinary integration in modern linguistics. The conference was attended by scholars and researchers from the Azerbaijan University of Languages, Nakhchivan State University, the Baku branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of the Faculty of Science and Letters at Kırklareli University (Turkey), Erciyes University in Kayseri, as well as academics from Spain and Italy. In particular, speakers such as Dr. Beytulla Bekar, Dr. Halil İbrahim İskender, researcher Edanur Uyanik, and Dr. Yasin Yayla from Kırklareli University (Turkey); Dr. Ulfat Zakir oglu Ibrahim, Associate Professor and Candidate of Philological Sciences from the Azerbaijan University of Languages; Alaviya Bahruz Nuri, a lecturer at Nakhchivan State University; Hamida Azizaga kyzy Khalilova from the Baku branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University; Alejandro Pérez Gutiérrez from Spain; and Marco Brignone from Italy shared their insights and scholarly perspectives on language policy, linguistic issues, and the challenges and solutions in language education in the current era of globalization and digital transformation. Today, the processes of globalization demand new approaches in education, bringing to the forefront such urgent tasks as improving the quality of foreign language teaching, promoting multilingualism, integrating modern pedagogical technologies into educational practices, and enhancing intercultural communication. From this standpoint, the scholarly ideas and best practices discussed during the conference will make a valuable contribution to the development of scientific research in these fields.

    On May 30, university psychologist N. Norova organized a seminar-training for students at the Student Residence Hall on the topic “Creating a Healthy Spiritual and Psychological Environment and Heart-to-Heart Conversation”. Held during the Eid al-Adha holiday break, the event aimed to strengthen students’ mental well-being, promote a positive mindset, and reduce emotional stress during the final stage of the academic year. During the training, students received practical recommendations on stress management, emotional self-regulation, maintaining psychological resilience, and effectively addressing various psychological situations encountered in daily life. Particular attention was given to fostering sincere communication with family members and loved ones during the holiday period, developing emotional intelligence, and strengthening healthy social relationships. The seminar-training was conducted in an interactive format and included psychological exercises, practical tasks, group discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. Participants had the opportunity to freely express their thoughts, reflect on their personal experiences, and learn useful techniques for maintaining emotional balance and inner peace. The meeting, held in a warm and open atmosphere, attracted considerable interest among students and played an important role in strengthening their psychological well-being, fostering a positive outlook, and encouraging a meaningful and productive holiday period.

    “Legal English, Law and Literature” - Mock Trial Event at UWED

    On May 22, 2026, the English Language Department of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy organized an interactive educational event titled “Legal English, Law and Literature” at the courtroom of the UWED Law Clinic. The event combined literature, legal English, and practical courtroom experience through a series of mock trials based on the works of renowned legal thriller author John Grisham. Within the Legal English course requirements, second-year International Law students studied John Grisham’s The Guardians, while members of the “Reading Grisham” club read and analyzed A Time to Kill. Inspired by the courtroom scenes and legal issues presented in these novels, students prepared and demonstrated mock trials reflecting the major court proceedings from the books. During the event, participants presented three courtroom trials: the conviction of Quincy Miller, the exoneration of Quincy Miller, and the trial of Carl Lee Hailey. The mock trial based on A Time to Kill was performed by the active members of the “Reading Grisham” club, consisting of students from the International Law and International Relations faculties. The event was organized by the English Language Department under the coordination of Vokhidova N.N. and Taylor Nauflett, whose guidance and support contributed greatly to the successful implementation of the project. The event highlighted students’ strong understanding of courtroom procedures, legal terminology, and advocacy skills. Through role-playing judges, attorneys, witnesses, and defendants, participants demonstrated both their legal English proficiency and practical communication abilities in a courtroom setting. A special guest of the event was Dr. Feruz Akobirov, English Language Programs Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent. Dr. Akobirov presented students with a collection of legal English and fiction books as gifts, encouraging further development of reading and professional language skills. At the conclusion of the event, certificates and gifts were awarded to the participants by Borisova Y.V., the Head of the English Language department. In her speech, she encouraged students to continue studying English, emphasizing that language proficiency opens new academic and professional opportunities and serves as an important path to success in the legal field and beyond. The event became a valuable platform for students to connect fiction with real courtroom practice and strengthen their legal English competencies in an engaging and practical environment.

    On May 22 of the current year, lecturers of the Department of Political Science, S.V. Nasimov and N. Kushaeva, organized an off-site educational lesson at the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for third-year students of the Political Science program at the Faculty of International Relations of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. The lesson was held within the framework of the 15th topic of the syllabus of the course “Comparative Politics” — “The Political System of the Republic of Uzbekistan.” During the lesson, students became acquainted with the activities of the country’s supreme legislative body, the main features of the parliamentary system, and the key stages of the law-making process. The meeting with deputies representing different political parties was of particular interest to the students and enabled them to gain a broader understanding of the practical aspects of parliamentary activity. The event was held in the format of an open and constructive dialogue. During the meeting, issues related to parliamentary activity, the role of political parties in the country’s political system, the development and consideration of draft laws, and the mechanisms of political and legal decision-making were discussed. The deputies provided comprehensive and informative answers to the questions raised by the students. As part of the off-site lesson, students also became acquainted with several notable facilities of the Legislative Chamber, including the museum reflecting the history of the Oliy Majlis, the parliamentary library, and the main assembly hall where laws are discussed and adopted. The off-site educational lesson contributed to strengthening the theoretical knowledge acquired by students within the course “Comparative Politics” and enabled them to connect academic material with the practical functioning of political institutions in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Such events play an important role in developing analytical thinking, professional competencies, and civic engagement among future specialists.

    The Psychology of a Modern Diplomat: The Embodiment of a Nation through the Harmony of Knowledge, Values, and Personal Growth

    A practical seminar and training session was held at UWED, aimed at enhancing the psychological resilience, professional competence, and leadership skills of future diplomats. In today’s era of globalization, effectively protecting national interests in the international arena demands not only extensive knowledge and intellectual potential but also rigorous psychological preparation and strong willpower. Organized in this spirit, the event was successfully conducted in high style through the collaboration of university psychologist N. Norova, the Office of Student Engagement, and the Youth Union coordinator. The seminar focused on detailed discussions regarding the psychological stability, professional ethics, leadership qualities, and personal development traits inherent to the profile of a modern diplomat. During the seminar, university psychologist N. Norova provided valuable recommendations to the future specialists on the rules of emotional and mental balance in diplomatic activity. The speaker emphasized that under any circumstances, a diplomat serves as the face of their country and the embodiment of the nation. Therefore, during the training, students were introduced to the art of managing emotions during difficult negotiations and unexpected stressful situations, maintaining strategic thinking, and accurately assessing objective and subjective circumstances. Particular attention was drawn to the fact that a diplomat's psychological integration with science, national values, and high spirituality constitutes their greatest strength in the international arena. Speaking at the event, S. Tilyaxodjayeva, a specialist from the Office of Student Engagement, highlighted the profound importance of today's youth being socially active, working continuously on self-improvement, and making effective use of the wide range of opportunities created at the university. In turn, the Youth Union coordinators also called on students to actively engage by utilizing all available opportunities and to practically demonstrate their leadership skills in various projects and initiatives. The most exciting part of the seminar-training continued with an award ceremony. A group of talented students, who stood as role models for their peers through their initiative, activity, and dedication in psychological seminars and spiritual-educational events held throughout the year, were awarded special certificates by the university administration. Rich in Q&A sessions, interesting debates, and a lively exchange of ideas, this event left a great impression on the young future specialists and served as a new incentive toward their future goals.

    Interdisciplinary Student Contest “Lobbying Simulation: Advocating for Change” Successfully Held at UWED

    The English Language Department (IEM section) successfully organized the interdisciplinary student contest “Lobbying Simulation: Advocating for Change” in cooperation integrating ESP and Law classes. The contest was organized in accordance with the implementation of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On State Youth Policy” (Articles 5, 7, and 8) as well as within the framework of the national program “Five Important Initiatives” aimed at supporting youth development, intellectual growth, and social activity. The contest was aimed at developing students’ independent learning skills, interdisciplinary thinking, persuasive communication, analytical abilities, and teamwork through simulation-based learning integrating Business English and Law. The competition was conducted in two stages. During the first stage, students prepared independent project work, developed lobbying strategies, and performed simulations in class. In the final stage, shortlisted teams submitted edited video performances and reports, which were evaluated by the departmental assessment panel.The contest demonstrated students’ creativity, critical thinking, professional communication skills, and ability to apply legal and strategic reasoning to real-life social issues.  Winners of the Contest 1st Place – “Fair Life Standards Movement” (Javohir Jo’raboyev, Madina Suyutbekova,Madina Jumayeva, Izzatbek Abdulhamidov ,Azizxoʻja Sunnatov).To advocate for increasing the official minimum living cost  in order to better reflect current economic conditions. 2nd Place – “Academic Efficiency Initiative” (Mardonova Iroda, Saidmamurov Saidxorunxon, G’aybullayeva Feruza,Nabiyev Sarvarbek). Proposing the introduction of a standardized study material policy. Under this policy, instructors teaching the same subject would collaborate to create a single, unified set of study materials for the course.  2nd Place – “Digital Trust Alliance” (Jumayeva Shaxlo, Gulchehra Jamilova, Asatova Laziza, G‘ayratov Akbar). The “Cyber-Shield” Policy: Uzbekistan’s Digital Financial Safety Act aimed at implementing policies against financial losses caused by online fraud.  3rd Place – “VoiceUp”(Adxamov Muxammadaziz, Salihjanova Sitorabonu, Sherzod Raxmatov, Baxtiyorov Asadullo, Madaminova Gulzodaxon). Animal Rights and Animal Cruelty Laws: advocating for stronger enforcement and legal protection for animals. All winners were awarded certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance and active participation in the contest.The project served as an innovative example of interdisciplinary collaboration and simulation-based learning aimed at enhancing students’ independent learning efficiency and professional competencies.

    On 19 May 2026, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Innovative Approaches to Water Resource Management in Arid Regions in the Context of Climate Change” (WICAR-2026). The conference was organised by the Department of Systems Analysis and Mathematical Modelling of UWED. The event brought together scientists, experts and government representatives from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Poland and a number of other countries — both in person and online. The conference focused on the comprehensive study of challenges related to effective water resource management in arid regions under climate change. Participants addressed a wide range of issues: from the application of mathematical and computer modelling methods to the optimisation of irrigation systems and the automation of water distribution — to questions of water diplomacy in Central Asia and ecological changes in the Aral Sea region. Particular attention was paid to the exchange of cutting-edge research findings and practical experience, as well as to the prospects for expanding international scientific cooperation in the field. The plenary session featured presentations by representatives of leading scientific and educational institutions: the Research Institute of Irrigation and Water Problems of Uzbekistan, the National Research University “Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers”, Green University, the National Committee of Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. In the afternoon, three thematic sections ran in parallel, during which more than 20 scientific papers were presented. The themes of WICAR-2026 are directly aligned with the global priorities set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, the discussions covered the following SDGs: SDG 6 — Clean Water and Sanitation: innovative approaches to water resource management under drought and climate change conditions; SDG 13 — Climate Action: methods for modelling climate variability and adapting water management systems; SDG 15 — Life on Land: analysis of ecological and hydrogeological processes in the Aral Sea region; SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals: strengthening international scientific cooperation and advancing science diplomacy in the field of water resources. The conference outcomes underscored that WICAR-2026 served as an effective platform for the exchange of research findings and best practices, the strengthening of academic ties, and the advancement of interdisciplinary research. Participants highlighted the high scientific quality of the papers presented, their practical relevance, and their significance for addressing contemporary challenges in water management and environmental security. The conference reaffirmed the status of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy as an authoritative scientific and educational centre that actively develops international cooperation and shapes the research agenda in the fields of sustainable development, natural resource management, and the application of advanced mathematical modelling methods.

    On May 19 of the current year, a practical training session was organized for first-year students of the Faculty of International Relations at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy at the Mirabad Interdistrict Civil Court. The visit was organized by the professors and instructors of the Department of Political Science. The event aimed to strengthen students’ theoretical knowledge through practical experience, familiarize them with the activities of the judicial and legal system, and enhance their legal awareness and culture. During the practical session, students became acquainted with the main areas of court activities, the procedures for organizing civil court proceedings, the powers and responsibilities of judges, as well as the reforms being implemented within the judicial and legal system. In addition, they received detailed information about court administration processes, the system for handling public appeals, and the introduction of modern information technologies into judicial activities. As part of the visit, an open dialogue was organized with the district court judges, during which students received comprehensive answers to their questions. The discussion also focused on enhancing legal awareness and legal culture among young people, the role of young professionals in ensuring the rule of law, and the interconnection between the fields of international relations and law. This practical training session helped students gain a broader understanding of the judicial and legal system and played an important role in developing the practical skills necessary for their future professional activities.
