On March 19 of this year, a masterclass was held for students of the master's program in “International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution” at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, dedicated to the topic “Current Practical Aspects of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Republic of Uzbekistan.” This event was organized by Sh. Masadikov, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law disciplines, and A. Bobonazarov, a lecturer at the department, with the aim of enriching students' theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and analyzing contemporary trends in the field.

The masterclass featured a presentation by a field expert, Diyorbek Kimsanov, Director of the “Tashkent Mediation Center” and a practicing mediator. The event saw active participation from professors and lecturers of the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law Disciplines, along with master's students from the “International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution” program, who exchanged views on the nuanced legal aspects of the field.

During the session, the methods of alternative dispute resolution available at both the national and international levels were analyzed. Furthermore, pressing issues concerning the application of mediation in practice, the use of mediation across different sectors, and matters related to the enforcement of mediation agreements were elucidated using real-life examples. Discussions also took place regarding which methods of dispute resolution could be more effective in reducing the caseload of the judicial process.

At the conclusion of the event, it was noted that paragraph 16.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals of UN – which focuses on “Ensuring the rule of law and expanding access to justice” – encompasses principles related to the implementation of extensive legal reforms concerning mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, as well as the significance of this provision in building strong democratic institutions.
