International Private Legal Issues of Intellectual Property Regulation Discussed

On March 19 of this year, a masterclass was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy on one of the most relevant areas of jurisprudence – the topic “Issues of Regulating Intellectual Property Objects in International Private Law.” This event was conducted by Alisher Bobonazarov, lecturer at the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law, and Humoyunmirzo Eshboyev, a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign and chief specialist at the Office of Academic Quality Assurance and Standardization, with the aim of enriching students' theoretical knowledge with real legal cases and analyzing contemporary trends in the field.
The event saw active participation from third‑year students of the Faculty of International Law alongside faculty members, who exchanged views on the nuanced legal aspects of the field. During the session, discussions focused on the regulatory mechanisms applied in the governance of intellectual property objects within the framework of international private law, as well as general doctrines of international private law.
Additionally, court practice and noteworthy cases that are of significant importance in regulating intellectual property in cross‑border relations were analyzed using specific examples.
At the conclusion of the event, conclusions were drawn regarding how the principles of paragraph 16.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals – “Ensuring the rule of law and expanding access to justice” – are inherently linked to harmonizing the regulation of various fields, including intellectual property objects, in international private law. There is no doubt that such masterclasses serve to raise legal awareness among future specialists and to ensure a strong integration of theory and practice.
