Educational Event Dedicated to the Memory of Victims of Political Repression and the Jadid Movement Held as Part of the “Independence Lesson”

In accordance with the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-270, dated July 19, 2024, “On Expanding Efforts to Study, Promote, and Perpetuate the Memory of Our Compatriots Who Became Victims of Political Repression”, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy continues to organize a series of educational and awareness-raising events.

As part of these initiatives, on August 29, an educational event dedicated to the memory of the victims of political repression and representatives of the Jadid movement was held within the framework of the “Independence Lesson”. The event brought together students who had arrived at the university before the beginning of the academic year and were being accommodated in the student residence halls and rented housing.

During the event, participants were introduced to the origins of the Jadid movement, its role in the national awakening of the Uzbek people, its contribution to the development of enlightenment ideas, and its impact on the modernization of the education system. Particular attention was also given to the lives and devoted service of compatriots who became innocent victims of political repression while working for the prosperity of the nation and the development of the country.

A special session of the event was dedicated to Diloro Sobirjonovna Yusupova, one of Uzbekistan’s first female legal professionals and Assistant Prosecutor of the Uzbek SSR. Students learned about her professional achievements in the field of law, her contribution to society, and her tragic fate during the years of political repression. Her unwavering commitment to justice, strong civic position, and resilience were highlighted as an inspiring example for the younger generation.

As a practical continuation of the event, students visited the Memorial Complex “In Memory of the Victims of Repression”. During the visit, they toured the museum exposition and the memorial complex, where they became acquainted with historical materials reflecting the lives and destinies of compatriots who suffered unjustly during the years of political repression.
