A Practical Seminar on Crime Prevention within the Framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

On April 10 of the current year, a practical seminar entitled “The Role of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in Measures Aimed at Preventing Crime in the Republic of Uzbekistan” was organized at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy on the initiative of Senior Lecturer D. Soliyev from the Department of International and Public Law. The seminar was conducted for second-year students of the Faculty of International Law and aimed at enhancing their knowledge and practical skills in the field of crime prevention.
During the seminar, students presented and defended analytical studies on legal and institutional mechanisms for combating and preventing crime in the Republic of Uzbekistan, based on a comparative analysis of the experience of developed foreign countries. In particular, the analysis focused on crime prevention strategies, the elimination of the causes and conditions of criminal behavior, early warning systems for offenses, as well as cooperation between state authorities and civil society institutions.
It is noteworthy that, in light of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 16, “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”—the practical applicability of the students’ analytical findings was examined. Within this framework, students’ proposals aimed at ensuring the rule of law, combating corruption, reducing crime rates, protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, and strengthening effective and accountable public institutions were comprehensively discussed.
Furthermore, special attention was given to the role of education in crime prevention, highlighting the importance of SDG 4, “Quality Education.” Interactive discussions were conducted to enhance students’ legal awareness, strengthen their sense of social responsibility, and explore modern approaches to preventing offenses.
In addition, mechanisms of cooperation among public authorities, educational institutions, and international organizations in combating crime were analyzed, and the importance of institutional integration within the framework of SDG 17, “Partnerships for the Goals,” was substantiated.
The seminar served as an important scientific and practical platform for developing a systematic approach to crime prevention among students, fostering their legal reasoning based on national and international standards, and contributing to the training of highly qualified legal professionals.
