UWED hosted a master class on the legal protection of industrial property

On 25 March the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a master class on the topic “Industrial Property as an Object of Intellectual Property: Features and Registration”. The event was organized by Sherzodbek Masadikov, head of the Department of civil law and private international law, and Nargiza Raimova, Professor of the department, with the aim of enriching students’ theoretical knowledge through real legal cases and analyzing current trends in this field.
Presentations at the master class were delivered by Zebiniso Makhmudova, specialist of the Office of Transformation and Strategic Development of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, and Solikha Abdurakhimova, a lecturer at the Department of civil law and private international law. Alongside the academic staff of the department, second-year students of the Faculty of International Law took an active part in the event and exchanged views on current issues relating to the legal protection of industrial property objects, the specific features of their registration, and contemporary trends in the development of this field. During the master class, particular attention was devoted to the legal nature of industrial property as one of the key institutions of intellectual property law, including such objects as inventions, utility models, industrial designs, and trademarks. Within the framework of the session, the speakers examined in detail the specific features of the legal protection of these objects, the procedures for their registration, and the significance of state registration for securing the exclusive rights of right holders.
Furthermore, during the master class, participants were introduced to the educational and informational opportunities provided by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including the resources of the WIPO Academy, which offer access to specialized courses, international educational materials, and modern approaches to the study of intellectual property. It was emphasized that the use of such international educational platforms contributes to broadening students’ professional outlook and strengthening their competencies in patent law and the international protection of intellectual property rights.
This master class is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 9 - “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” and Goal 16 - “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”. It was emphasized during the event that a reliable system of legal protection for industrial property serves as an important foundation for fostering innovation, supporting scientific research, strengthening the institutional environment, and ensuring the effective protection of the rights of participants in civil law relations.
