On 17 June 2025, the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a training event on the topic: “The Role and Responsibility of Ministry Leadership and Staff in Achieving Forecasted Export Indicators for 2025”.

The event brought together staff from the central office of the Ministry of Sports, regional representatives, and invited experts from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade.

The training aimed to enhance participants’ foundational and practical knowledge of export policy, broaden their understanding of the potential role of different government bodies – including those in the social sector – in supporting the country's export growth, and strengthen the competencies needed for evidence-based decision-making in public administration.

Special attention was given to improving the economic literacy of those involved in shaping sectoral policy, as well as to strengthening inter-agency dialogue.

A keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sh.Sharifkhodjaev, Professor at the Department of International Economics at UWED, who presented an analytical overview of the country’s foreign trade trends. He emphasised the strategic importance of integrating social infrastructure, including the field of sports, into Uzbekistan’s export services strategy.

The discussion also focused on practical mechanisms to expand export capacity through the development of institutional partnerships, the creation of new exportable services, and the integration of international best practices.

Experts from the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade presented recent data, noting an 18% increase in exports in the first five months of the year. According to the speakers, this growth reflects the success of coordinated inter-agency policies and efforts to improve the effectiveness of public sector governance.

The interactive format of the event encouraged open discussion, enabling participants to raise relevant questions and receive expert advice tailored to the specific challenges of their institutions. The training served as a key step in building the institutional and human capacity of public bodies and in reinforcing their contribution to strategic national objectives.

This activity represented a meaningful contribution to sustainable development and the implementation of national priorities across all levels of government. It also provided an effective platform for strengthening the institutional capacity of state authorities in the area of economic governance.

Particular emphasis was placed on the development of economic thinking among civil servants, alongside the cultivation of strategic planning and interdepartmental coordination skills.
