UWED Scholar Participated in International Events Dedicated to the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals

Surayyo Usmanova, Acting Professor of the Department of International Law and Public Law Disciplines at the Faculty of International Law, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, participated in international events focusing on the institutional activities of the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of her academic and research activities in the United States under the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
In particular, she visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where she attended sessions of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council as an observer. The visit was facilitated with the assistance of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United Nations.
The visit provided an opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the functioning of the UN's principal organs, multilateral diplomatic deliberations aimed at maintaining international peace and security, international decision-making procedures, and the practical application of international law.
Furthermore, on October 25, 2026, Dr. Usmanova participated in a United Nations Day celebration held in Pennsylvania, United States, as a member of the academic community of Pennsylvania State University (Penn State).
Organized by the United Nations Association of the USA – Central Pennsylvania Chapter, the event focused on the theme “Towards Zero Hunger: Innovative Solutions from the Youth Food Lab.”
The event addressed pressing issues related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2: Zero Hunger). Special attention was given to ensuring global food security, developing sustainable food systems, supporting youth-led innovative initiatives, and strengthening international cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
These two events provided valuable opportunities to explore interconnected dimensions of the United Nations' work, including institutional mechanisms for maintaining international peace and security, as well as global and local initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable development.
Dr. Usmanova's participation in these events contributed to gaining practical insights into the functioning of international organizations, strengthening the integration of theory and practice in international legal education, and facilitating the application of the knowledge and observations gained to research and teaching activities at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
