On October 15, 2026, a celebration marking the National Day of Spain was held at the Hilton Tashkent City Hotel, organized by the Consulate of Spain in Uzbekistan. The event provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the richness of the Spanish language and culture while strengthening cultural and educational ties between Spain and Uzbekistan.

The Department of European and Turkic Languages of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) was represented by its Head, Vasila Akramjanovna Mamatkasimova, along with Spanish language instructors Nargiza Kudratullayevna Xayrullayeva, Mahbuba Bahodirovna Sadiqova, Kamola Baxtiyorovna Muxamedova, and Inmaculada Velasco Gómez.

The department’s participation in the event highlighted the importance of Spanish language education and the promotion of Spanish-speaking cultures in higher education. Such initiatives enrich language learning through direct cultural engagement and enable students to apply their acquired knowledge in real-life international communication settings.

As part of the event, second- and third-year students majoring in World Economy and International Economic Relations, as well as third-year students majoring in International Relations at UWED, assisted with guest registration and reception. This experience allowed them to apply their communication and organizational skills in practice, enhance their ability to interact with representatives from various professional backgrounds, and gain valuable experience in welcoming and assisting guests at an official international event.

Participation in such events is closely connected to students’ academic training. For future specialists in international relations, attending an event organized by a diplomatic mission offers an opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the practical aspects of interstate relations and develop a deeper understanding of the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties.

For students majoring in World Economy and International Economic Relations, such gatherings clearly demonstrate the importance of interinstitutional cooperation, intercultural communication, and mutual understanding in advancing international collaboration and creating favorable conditions for economic relations. In this way, the experience helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and the practical dimensions of international affairs.

Furthermore, the event provided students with an opportunity to practice Spanish in a natural communicative environment, build greater confidence in their language skills, and broaden their understanding of Spanish traditions and cultural characteristics. Direct interaction with guests and participation in a multicultural setting contributed to the development of intercultural competencies essential for their future professional careers in both diplomacy and economics.

The celebration was accompanied by live music, creating an atmosphere that was both festive and welcoming. The musical performances enriched the cultural dimension of the event and encouraged communication and cultural exchange among participants.

The participation of the Department of European and Turkic Languages in this initiative reflects its commitment to promoting a foreign language teaching approach that integrates practical communication, cultural awareness, and international engagement. At the same time, the active involvement of students demonstrates the value of extracurricular activities as an essential complement to university education.

Such experiences contribute to the development of professional competencies, foster a deeper understanding of international relations, and raise awareness of the importance of culture and communication in today’s interconnected world. The event made a meaningful contribution to strengthening cultural ties between Spain and Uzbekistan while further enhancing the international dimension of university life.
