UWED and Belgium expand academic cooperation

On September 28, 2026, a meeting was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mathias Kende.

During the meeting, the Ambassador was briefed on the activities of UWED, its international academic cooperation, and the work of the Institute for Advanced International Studies and the Diplomatic Academy.

The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation with Belgian and European universities and research centers, including Ghent University, the Egmont Institute, CEPS, the Catholic University of Leuven, the University of Antwerp, and the University of Mons. Proposals included academic exchanges, joint research, guest lectures, and expert events.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation between the diplomatic academies of the two countries, as well as the possibility of Mathias Kende delivering lectures at UWED on WTO issues, European studies, and international relations.

The parties also expressed interest in launching Dutch language courses at UWED.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to develop a joint action plan comprising academic exchanges, joint research projects, and training and professional development programs for diplomats.
