UWED hosted a Master Class on “China in Regional and Global Politics”

On May 5, 2026, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a master class entitled “China in Regional and Global Politics” within the framework of the Regional Studies course. The event featured distinguished guests including Zhu Shisun, Associate Professor at the prestigious Sichuan University - ranked among the world’s TOP-300 universities - and Executive Director of the Institute for Contemporary China Studies; Liu He, political scientist and scholar at Shihezi University; as well as Eric Chen, tourism representative of China’s Xinjiang region and Director of the Echo Think Tank. Second-year students of the Faculty of International Relations actively participated in the event.
During the meeting, Zhu Shisun delivered an academically grounded lecture on traditional and modern approaches to international relations theory and shared his analytical perspectives on China’s role in regional and global politics.
In his presentation, Liu He focused on China’s contemporary geopolitical initiatives, economic development strategies, security issues, and political cooperation policies. In particular, pragmatic cooperation initiatives with the countries of Central Asia were analyzed from both conceptual and practical perspectives.
Students showed great interest in the open and friendly dialogue led by Eric Chen. The discussion covered cooperation projects between China and Central Asia, the practical outcomes of the Belt and Road Initiative, and multilateral diplomatic relations within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The master class once again demonstrated its importance in achieving Sustainable Development Goals 9, 16, and 17.
At the conclusion of the event, students received detailed and academically substantiated answers to their questions. The master class provided young specialists with an opportunity to further enhance their theoretical and practical knowledge on sustainable development and mutually beneficial cooperation.
