On 26–27 March of the current year, the international training rounds “Pitt Consortium” were held in Vienna as part of the preparation for one of the most prestigious competitions in International Commercial Arbitration – the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot).

The team of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, consisting of students from the Faculty of International Law Normuhammatova Aziza, Pardaeva Noila, Shermetov Kamronbek and Rakhmatullaeva Aziza participated in the Pitt Consortium together with Professor of the Department of Civil Law and Private International Law Disciplines Imamova Dilfuza.

The UWED team successfully represented the university on the international stage, demonstrating a high level of legal training, advanced analytical thinking, and strong oral advocacy skills.

During the rounds, the UWED team acted as Claimant against the International University of Sarajevo and as Respondent against the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Participation in the Pitt Consortium marked an important stage in the students’ professional development. In conditions closely simulating real arbitral proceedings, participants developed skills in building legal arguments, formulating legal positions, and delivering oral pleadings in English. The event brought together teams from leading universities around the world, creating a unique platform for academic exchange, intercultural interaction, and the development of practice-oriented competencies in international arbitration.

The participation of the UWED team in this event directly contributes to the implementation of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16, “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions,” in particular Target 16.3, aimed at promoting the rule of law and ensuring equal access to justice, as well as Sustainable Development Goal 17, “Partnerships for the Goals,” particularly Target 17.6, which provides for the development of international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation and the expansion of access to them. In particular, the knowledge and skills acquired are aimed at strengthening the rule of law and developing a professional legal community capable of effectively operating in the international legal environment.
