On 22 December, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted H.E. Mr. Ashraf Xodjaev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the State of Qatar, who paid an official visit to the university and delivered a substantive lecture to students and faculty members. The event formed part of UWED’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the practical dimension of academic training and to expose students to first-hand diplomatic perspectives on contemporary international relations.

During his address, Ambassador Xodjaev presented a comprehensive and analytically rich overview of the State of Qatar, outlining its political system, governance model, economic structure, and foreign policy priorities. He emphasized Qatar’s transformation into a key regional and international actor, highlighting its active diplomatic engagement, mediation initiatives, and growing role in global political and economic processes. Particular attention was given to Qatar’s economic development strategy, including its reliance on energy resources, especially liquefied natural gas, alongside sustained efforts toward economic diversification, innovation, and investment in human capital.

A central focus of the lecture was the development of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Qatar. Ambassador Xodjaev traced the historical foundations of diplomatic ties between the two countries and examined the gradual expansion of cooperation across political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains. He noted that bilateral relations are based on principles of mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and shared interests, and have steadily evolved through regular high-level contacts and institutional cooperation.

Special emphasis was placed on recent developments in Uzbekistan–Qatar relations, reflecting the growing intensity and practical orientation of bilateral engagement in recent years. The Ambassador highlighted the increasing political dialogue between the two states, as well as the expanding interest of Qatari partners in Uzbekistan’s reform agenda and economic potential. He addressed prospects for cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure development, energy, education, and cultural exchange, underlining the importance of long-term, sustainable partnerships. The lecture also examined broader regional and international contexts, including Uzbekistan’s expanding cooperation with Gulf countries and Qatar’s role within regional and multilateral frameworks.

The lecture generated strong interest among students, particularly those specializing in international relations, diplomacy, and world economy. The subsequent discussion demonstrated a high level of engagement, as students posed questions concerning the dynamics of Uzbekistan’s relations with Middle Eastern states, Qatar’s diplomatic strategy, and the practical aspects of diplomatic service. Ambassador Xodjaev’s responses provided valuable insights into the realities of contemporary diplomacy and underscored the importance of analytical thinking, professionalism, and adaptability in international affairs.

The visit of Ambassador Ashraf Xodjaev to UWED represented a meaningful contribution to the university’s academic life, reinforcing the connection between theoretical study and diplomatic practice. Such engagements reflect UWED’s commitment to preparing highly qualified specialists by facilitating direct interaction with experienced practitioners of international relations. The university expresses its appreciation to Ambassador Xodjaev for his visit and for sharing his expertise with the academic community, thereby contributing to the intellectual and professional development of future diplomats and international affairs specialists.
