On October 21, 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a meeting of the leadership, students and teachers with the famous Korean diplomat and politician, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Chung Eui-Young. The central event of the visit was his report on the topic: “Geopolitical challenges of Korea and Uzbek-Korean relations”.

The high-ranking diplomat was met by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev.

In his speech at the UWED, Mr. Chung Eui-Yong touched upon the current geopolitical challenges facing the Korean Peninsula in the modern world, as well as the prospects for further strengthening the strategic partnership with Uzbekistan. Relations between the two countries are developing dynamically, demonstrating a high level of mutual trust and interest.

The visit of Mr. Chung Eui-Yong strengthens the long-standing and productive ties of UWED with the leading educational and scientific centers of the Republic of Korea. The university is actively developing partnerships with universities such as Korea University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Keimyeung University, within the framework of which student exchange programs and joint research projects are implemented. In addition, UWED successfully cooperates with Korean organizations, such as the Korea Foundation and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in holding expert forums and implementing large-scale initiatives in the field of digital education.

As noted at a recent meeting between Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Lee Jae-myung, the volume of direct Korean investment in the economy of Uzbekistan has exceeded $8 billion, and bilateral cooperation covers such areas as mechanical engineering, chemistry, transport, biotechnology and many others.

The event underscores UWED's commitment to developing international dialogue and providing students with a unique opportunity to learn from the world's leading experts.

For information. Chung Eui-yong is one of the key figures in modern diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula. As head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2021-2022, he had a direct impact on the formation of the country's foreign policy.
