Representatives of the Embassy of Italy and the Chamber of Deputies visited UWED

On October 11 of this year, the representative of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy, politician Paolo Alli and the Charge d'Affaires of Italy in Uzbekistan Andrea De Felipe visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
During the visit, the guests met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of UWED Sodyq Safoev. The negotiations were also attended by the First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University Akram Umarov and the head of the Center for American Studies of the Institute for Advanced International Studies at the University Ulugbek Ishankhodjaev.
At the beginning of the meeting, Rector S. Safoev briefly informed the members of the Italian delegation about the activities of UWED, its academic achievements and priority areas of international cooperation. He also highlighted the strengthening of ties between the European Union and the Central Asian region in recent years and stressed the historical significance of the first Central Asia-European Union Summit held in Samarkand.
In turn, Mr. Paolo Alli drew attention to the dynamic development of cooperation between Central Asia, in particular, Uzbekistan and the European Union, especially Italy. At the same time, the guest spoke about his activities as a member of the European Parliament, when he was the responsible representative for international affairs of the Central Asian region, as well as about the tasks of strengthening ties with Uzbekistan.
Italian Ambassador Andrea De Felipe expressed his opinion on the need to strengthen soft power diplomacy between the two countries, develop academic exchanges and scientific cooperation between universities, as well as bring bilateral relations to a new level.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to develop mutually beneficial, sustainable and long-term cooperation, as well as to sign an appropriate document on cooperation.
