On September 12, 2025, a delegation headed by the President of the Shanghai Institute of International Studies (SIMI), Professor Chen Dongxiao, visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

The delegation was received by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev. During the conversation, the parties discussed the prospects for expanding academic and scientific cooperation.

Rector S. Safoev noted the strategic importance of Uzbekistan's participation in the SCO and highlighted such key priorities of the university as sustainable development, as well as the study of the Chinese language and the realities of China through the prism of local experts. The importance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Belt and Road Initiative for the region was emphasized.

Professor Chen Dongxiao praised the growing international profile of UWED and spoke about the practice-oriented approach of SIMO, which he described not only as a think tank, but also as a "do tank". He expressed interest in the development of joint research and academic exchange programs.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed:

to strengthen partnerships through the implementation of joint research and academic exchanges;

expand the teaching of the Chinese language with the involvement of professors from China;

to establish exchange programs for researchers of the two institutions.
