On May 10, 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a lecture by H.E. Mr Yu Jun, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Uzbekistan. The event formed part of the course “Contemporary International Relations, Global Economy, and the Interests of Uzbekistan” and drew a large audience of students and faculty members.
Ambassador Yu delivered a talk entitled “Foreign Investment in the Modern Economy: China’s Experience and Prospects for China–Uzbekistan Cooperation”, tracing China’s journey from the launch of reform and opening-up to WTO accession and its present focus on digital innovation.
He noted that China now contributes over 30 % to global growth and recorded 5.4 % GDP expansion in Q1 2025 alongside record trade volumes.
Explaining the concept of “Chinese-style modernization”, the Ambassador highlighted five pillars: meeting the needs of a large population, common prosperity, balancing material and cultural progress, green development, and peaceful growth. He then outlined concrete achievements and future plans with Uzbekistan, including serial production at the BYD–UzAuto joint venture, the Pengsheng Industrial Park, nationwide 5G deployment by Huawei, the forthcoming China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, and joint initiatives in AI, digital trade, and clean energy.
A lively Q-and-A session followed, with students enquiring about green investment opportunities. Ambassador Yu responded in detail, underscoring China’s commitment to deepening engagement with Uzbekistan. The meeting offered students first-hand insight into China’s external economic priorities and Uzbekistan’s role within them, enriching the university’s academic environment.
