On May 5, 2025, a meeting took place between the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) Sodyq Safoev and the representative of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Uzbekistan, Barbara Janusz-Pawletta.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Janusz-Pawletta was introduced with the University’s activities in the fields of energy security research, achieving sustainable development goals, the launch of a joint master’s program in Water Diplomacy with the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), as well as the opportunities provided by the “Executive Education” faculty.
The guest noted that the work being carried out by UWED in cooperation with TIIAME represents an interdisciplinary approach that includes both technical and political aspects of water resource management, which generates significant interest for the development of cooperation not only in education but also in research.
During the negotiations, Ms. Janusz-Pawletta expressed readiness to support the launch of the master’s program in Water Diplomacy.
The UWED leadership proposed organizing short-term courses for young specialists and professors to raise their awareness and qualifications in water-related topics. Additionally, a proposal was made to explore the organization of training sessions on water management for representatives of the public sector, to be held at the “Executive Education” faculty.
As a result of the meeting, both parties agreed to further discuss practical steps for deepening their cooperation.
It should be noted that within the framework of the meeting, B. Janusz-Pawletta gave a lecture for UWED students on the topic “Aral Sea Basin Management”.
