UWED held an international scientific and practical conference on the topic “Current Problems of International Law: International Environmental Problems and Legal Solutions”

On April 24, 2026, the Department of “International Law and Public Law Disciplines” of the UWED held a traditional international scientific and practical conference on the topic “Current Problems of International Law: International Environmental Problems and Legal Solutions”.
The purpose of the conference was to develop effective international legal mechanisms aimed at solving global environmental problems, to form the theoretical and institutional foundations of modern environmental law, and to develop scientifically based international legal recommendations on the adoption of key declarative documents within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Also, this conference was aimed at exchanging views on modern normative and methodological concepts, advanced scientific approaches and current trends that serve to develop international law as an independent scientific direction in the Republic of Uzbekistan, and to integrate professional experience and scientific knowledge.
The conference was attended by representatives and experts from higher education institutions of Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Canada. The conference participants discussed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in solving global and regional environmental problems, the Aral Sea issue in modern international law, food security and environmental sustainability on the example of the UN specialized agency FAO, the right to access environmental information and human rights on the example of Kazakhstan's practice, artificial intelligence and renewable energy sources, the impact of air pollution on the implementation of the right to health: international legal protection mechanisms, “Green” and “Digital” corruption, international legal protection of the environment from mercury exposure.
The conference moderator, Professor of the Department of International Law and Public Law Disciplines at UWED N.A. Nugmanov addressed the development of proposals aimed at improving international and national legal institutions (legislation) in the field of ecology; strengthening interaction and developing cooperation between the scientific community; scientific discussion of the processes of systematization and codification of specific principles of international environmental law and issues of liability for violations of environmental legislation, and also recognized the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the Regional Environmental Summit on April 22, 2026, such as the formation of the “Central Asian Green Trade Corridor”, the development of the “Central Asian Red Book” to preserve biodiversity, and the holding of the World Youth Climate Forum in Uzbekistan in 2027, and noted that the participation of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the adoption of the “Central Asian Ecological Solidarity” Declaration, the 2030 Action Program, implemented in close partnership with UN structures, is another achievement in the ecological foundation of our state.
At the conference, Associate Professor of the Department of “International Law and Public Law Disciplines” of the UWED V.I. Toshmatova emphasized the need to find solutions to legal problems in the international legal protection of the human right to a healthy environment, and detailed the impact of air pollution on the implementation of the right to health.
V.N. Sayfullayeva, a basic doctoral student at the UWED, presented proposals based on fundamental scientific research on a comprehensive analysis of innovative approaches to solving modern international legal problems in the field of ecology and the impact of artificial intelligence on environmental information security.
I. Babayeva, a basic doctoral student at the UWED, presented a presentation on the regulation of the climate agenda and sustainable development of Uzbekistan within the framework of international law, and provided information on the initiatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of ecology.
At the end of the conference, questions related to current problems posed by students of Sarbon University were answered, and the conference will serve as an ecological platform for uniting scientific ideas in the future.
