A master class on the legal regulation of trade in goods was held at UWED

On October 19, 2026, at the initiative of faculty members U.Kodirov and D.Soliyev of the Department of International Law and Public Law Disciplines of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, a master class on “Trade in Goods” was held within the course “International Trade Law.” The practical session featured Anastasiya Valeryevna Belova, Head of the Trade Division of the Department for Cooperation with CIS Countries at the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who briefed students on the international and national legal regulation of trade in goods, the mechanisms of foreign trade policy, and the specific features of trade and economic cooperation with CIS countries.
The master class covered the international legal framework for trade in goods, in particular the core principles of the World Trade Organization system - most-favoured-nation treatment and national treatment - tariff and non-tariff measures, as well as trade relations under the CIS Free Trade Area Agreement. Particular attention was paid to practical issues of expanding Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover, increasing its export potential, and integrating into the international trading system. As a key driver of economic growth and employment, the development of trade is closely linked to Sustainable Development Goal 8 - “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8).
A key feature of the session was its focus on linking theoretical knowledge with practice and on building students’ skills in analyzing international trade relations, interpreting international agreements and national legal acts, and approaching trade policy issues independently. The direct involvement of a government official gave students first-hand insight into current issues of law enforcement practice in foreign trade. This supports quality, practice-oriented education and contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 - “Quality Education” (SDG 4).
Promoting an open, rules-based, non-discriminatory multilateral trading system and increasing the exports of developing countries correspond directly to the trade targets of Sustainable Development Goal 17 - “Partnerships for the Goals” (SDG 17). Moreover, such cooperation between an educational institution and government bodies also contributes to this goal.
