Renowned Diplomat and Journalist Conducts Masterclass for UWED Students

On October 29, 2026, renowned diplomat and journalist Abror Gulyamov conducted a masterclass for second-year students of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), who are studying the course “Politics and the Media.”

During the session, A. Gulyamov reflected on his professional journey, which began after graduating from the Faculty of Journalism at the National University. He shared his experiences of working at the Toshkent Haqiqati newspaper and the press service of the Ministry of Culture, followed by his responsible duties in the Office of the President of Uzbekistan and nearly 25 years of service at the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He was among those who played a key role in establishing the Jahon Information Agency (now Dunyo) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also headed the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul for more than a decade and worked in the international department of the Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA).

During the meeting, the experienced journalist and diplomat shared his expertise in engaging with domestic and international media to promote a positive image of Uzbekistan. He described how he established contacts with leading international media outlets and coordinated efforts to counter information campaigns targeting the newly independent country. The diplomat also provided detailed insights into the distinctive features of the Turkish media landscape.

Summing up the meeting, A. Gulyamov highlighted the profound transformations that have taken place in the media sector over the past decade. He also discussed the emerging image of New Uzbekistan, which is now receiving extensive coverage in leading international publications.

At the conclusion of the masterclass, A. Gulyamov answered numerous questions from students concerning the role of the media in international relations and global politics.
