On 13–14 May 2026, Senior Lecturer Dr. F.A. Bekmurodova (PhD) of the Department of International Economics at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy held classes for second-year students on “Sustainable Development Goals in Open Economy Macroeconomics” as part of the Macroeconomics course.

The classes examined the meaning of the Sustainable Development Goals in an open economy and their role in the development of the global and national economies. Students discussed how areas such as economic growth, poverty reduction, quality education, environmental sustainability and international cooperation are linked to macroeconomic indicators.

Special attention was given to the impact of politics and geopolitics on the economy. Using practical examples, the lecturer explained how international conflicts, trade restrictions, inflation, energy crises and shifts in the investment climate affect countries’ development and progress toward the SDGs.

The sessions were interactive. Working in small groups, students prepared presentations on ways to achieve sustainable development in an open economy, the experience of developed and developing countries, and current global economic challenges, followed by discussion. A question-and-answer session covered the work of international organizations on sustainable development, the effect of economic policy on public welfare, and environmental and social sustainability.

The classes helped students connect macroeconomic theory with today’s global processes, develop analytical thinking and strengthen their knowledge of international economic relations.
