UWED Rector Meets with Representatives of the German Bundestag’s Parliamentary Friendship Group

As previously reported, an Uzbek delegation led by Sodyq Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), is currently on a visit to Berlin.

As part of the visit, the Uzbek delegation held a meeting with representatives of the German Bundestag’s Germany–Central Asia Parliamentary Friendship Group.

During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries, developing interparliamentary ties, and expanding trade and economic cooperation.

Members of the German Parliament commended Uzbekistan’s growing economic potential, the increasing volume of German investment, the expanding activities of German companies, and the rapid growth of tourism exchanges.

Particular attention was paid to deepening cooperation in combating climate change, managing water resources, education, and training qualified professionals. The importance of further intensifying dialogue within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) was also emphasized.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a roadmap for interparliamentary cooperation for 2027–2028 and arrange a visit by a German Bundestag delegation to Uzbekistan next year. The visit is also expected to include an opportunity to learn about the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region.
