UWED Expands Cooperation with Qatar in Diplomatic Education and Academic Exchange

On September 7, 2026, Sodyq Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Ahmad bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar.

The meeting was held to further develop Uzbek-Qatari cooperation in education, diplomatic training, and professional exchange. The parties discussed prospects for expanding interaction between the universities, educational establishments, and diplomatic institutions of the two countries.

Particular attention was given to the possibility of implementing joint short-term educational programs, advanced training courses, and professional workshops. The parties also considered the prospects of exchanging experts and organizing specialized courses, drawing on Qatar's practical experience in international mediation and conflict resolution.

Strengthening academic and professional ties between the two countries was an important part of the discussion. Specifically, the parties explored opportunities for increasing mutual visits, academic exchanges, and the regular hosting of joint events.

On the same day, S. Safoev took part in the opening of the international conference "Islamic Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan and its Role in World Science," organized by the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies in collaboration with the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations and Qatar University.

The UWED Rector delivered a keynote address at the conference, becoming one of the key participants in the international academic dialogue on the historical and civilizational heritage of Uzbekistan.

The conference is being attended by government officials, heads of leading educational and scientific institutions, professors, and researchers from Uzbekistan, Qatar, and other countries. Participants and speakers include representatives from Qatar University and universities in Jordan, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Italy, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and other nations.

The conference agenda covers a wide range of issues related to Uzbekistan's Islamic scientific and cultural heritage, the contribution of prominent Central Asian thinkers to the development of world science, the role of the Great Silk Road in the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of inter-civilizational dialogue, and the significance of Uzbekistan's historic cities in the formation of Islamic civilization.

For the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, developing international partnerships, expanding opportunities for students and faculty, and strengthening ties with leading foreign educational and diplomatic institutions remain key priorities of its international activities.
