On 7 July this year, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy organised an official meeting and a friendly football match with the participation of representatives of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Uzbekistan. The event aimed to promote sports diplomacy and strengthen friendly ties between the youth of Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

During the event, the university administration emphasised the invaluable role of sport in bringing nations and cultures closer together. As noted, sport knows no language, cultural or national boundaries; rather, it unites people through mutual respect, teamwork and understanding. Although teams compete on the football field, friendship always remains the greatest winner.

During the meeting, it was also highlighted that this year holds special significance in the history of Uzbek sport. In particular, great pride was expressed over the fact that the Uzbekistan national football team qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 for the first time in its history. This historic achievement has become a source of inspiration for millions of young people in the country and has once again demonstrated that unity, determination and hard work can lead to the highest accomplishments.

In turn, representatives of the Embassy of Pakistan sincerely congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on this historic success and conveyed their best wishes. They also presented the university team with a “Trionda” football produced in Pakistan as a symbolic gift.

The friendly football match held at the UWED sports ground became an important step towards further strengthening people-to-people diplomacy and friendly relations between the youth of the two countries. At the conclusion of the event, the parties agreed to continue cooperation in regularly organising joint events in the fields of sport, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and youth exchanges.
