UWED Hosts “The Day of Silence” Inclusive Communication Initiative

On May 15, 2026, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted the inclusive communication initiative “The Day of Silence”.
The event was organized to promote a culture of inclusive communication among students, strengthen mutual understanding, kindness, and tolerance toward people with disabilities. Special attention was also given to teaching students basic sign language gestures that can be used in everyday communication.
The initiative was organized by teachers of the UWED English Department together with first-year students of the Faculty of International Economics and Management. During the event, participants discussed the importance of communication beyond words and the role of sign language in building bridges of respect, support, and mutual understanding.
As part of the preparation process, students learned 10 essential sign language gestures through a dedicated Telegram channel and video lessons. During the event, participants demonstrated the gestures they had learned in front of the organizers and their peers.
The project focused on several important issues, including the development of inclusive communication in society, support for people with disabilities, the enhancement of students’ social engagement, and the promotion of empathy and tolerance.
At the end of the event, students who successfully demonstrated all 10 gestures were awarded “Inclusion Ambassador” certificates.
“The Day of Silence” initiative became not only an opportunity for students to gain new knowledge and practical skills, but also an important platform for deepening their understanding of equality, respect, and mutual support in modern society.
