On March 5 of this year, a master class on the topic “Specific Features of the Nigerian Commercial and Civil Legal System” was organized for master's students specializing in “International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution” at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. The session was conducted by Sopuruchukwu Elizabeth Anih, a Nigerian lawyer and legal trade consultant for a Hungarian company, and was initiated by Alisher Bobonazarov Bolmuhammad o‘g‘li, a teacher at the Department of “Civil Law and Private International Law Disciplines, as part of the course “Civil and Commercial Law of Foreign Countries.”

During the session, students were introduced to the specifics of the Nigerian legal system, its legal frameworks, and the ways in which various sources of law and elements from different legal families are harmonized in practice. The analysis also covered existing conflicts within the system and their underlying causes.

Elizabeth highlighted that Nigerian legislation incorporates elements of the Anglo-Saxon, Romano-Germanic, and Sharia legal systems, all unified and harmonized under a single, overarching constitution. She also noted that legislative sources may vary across states depending on local values.

This event helped students gain specialized knowledge from an experienced lawyer within the framework of “Civil and Commercial Law of Foreign Countries,” enhanced their analytical skills by comparing new information, and provided answers to their questions regarding African countries.
