On March 6, 2026, the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the UWED Sadyk Safoev met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Uzbekistan Guido De Sanctis at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of the development of Uzbek-Italian relations, including inter-parliamentary cooperation, academic cooperation and expansion of partnership between scientific and educational institutions of the two countries.

Safoev noted that relations between Uzbekistan and Italy are characterized by stable positive dynamics and a high level of political trust. It was emphasized that regular political dialogue and active inter-parliamentary cooperation contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral ties, including through the activities of parliamentary friendship groups and the exchange of parliamentary delegations.

During the conversation, the prospects for the development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres were also considered.

Particular attention was paid to the issues of academic cooperation between UWED and leading universities in Italy. It was noted that the university is already cooperating with a number of Italian universities, including the universities of Bologna, Perugia and Siena, implementing programs of academic exchange, language training and scientific cooperation. The Ambassador of Italy highly appreciated the academic potential of UWED and expressed readiness to promote the development of educational and scientific ties between the universities of the two countries.

In addition, the possibilities of implementing joint educational programs in the field of public administration, international relations and economic diplomacy, as well as the prospects for conducting joint scientific research and expert events were discussed.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in further strengthening Uzbek-Italian cooperation in the political, educational, scientific and analytical spheres.
