The Model United Nations opening ceremony was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy

On December 12, 2025, the opening ceremony of the traditional Model United Nations (UWED MUN) was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. The ceremony was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan Won Do Young, UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan Regina Maria Castillo, Head of the Office for Cooperation with the UN and Other International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laziz Garaev, as well as faculty and students of UWED.
The event was opened by Sodyq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. In his speech, he touched on the active role of youth in modern diplomatic processes, their contribution to resolving global problems, and Uzbekistan's responsibility as a worthy generation on the international stage.
Representatives of a number of international organizations and countries also spoke during the ceremony. In particular, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan Won Do Yeon, UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan Regina Maria Castillo and Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar spoke about the role of youth in addressing global challenges, their contribution to combating climate change, protecting human rights, sustainable development, and strengthening international peace.
In the next part of the ceremony, Laziz Karaev, Head of the Department for Cooperation with the UN and Other International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, spoke about relations between Uzbekistan and the UN. In his speech, he noted that the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, held in Samarkand, was one of the achievements of our country's diplomacy in recent years.
The organizers of the UWED MUN conference, also spoke during the event, emphasizing that the active participation of young people in global processes, their creative thinking, and responsible stance have become the most important driving force of modern international cooperation. They called on delegates to resolutely strive for dialogue, solidarity and practical solutions.

This year's conference not only marks the club's 20th anniversary but also marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. 350 delegates from more than 10 prestigious universities and lyceums in our country united under the motto "From Dialogue to Practice: Rethinking Global Governance through the Voice of Youth in an Era of Disagreement."
