UWED celebrates Birthday of the Korean alphabet with school pupils and the public

On 26 November 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy organized the event to celebrate the birthday of the Korean alphabet, Hangul (한글날). The event was open to everyone interested in Korean language and culture, and admission was free.

More than 60 people of different ages took part, including pupils from Secondary School No. 71 in Tashkent as well as UWED students and guests.

Participants learned how the Hangul alphabet was created and what makes the Korean writing system unique. They also got to know one of the most recognisable parts of Korean everyday life and tradition: the national costume, the hanbok, and its history. The interactive format let even complete beginners try their hand at writing in Korean.

Events like this give people outside the university, especially young school pupils, a chance to learn something new on a university campus. They encourage curiosity about other languages and cultures, whereas they build tolerance for cultural, religious and linguistic diversity.

The event contributed to lifelong learning (SDG 4) by extending educational and cultural knowledge to school pupils and participants from different age groups. It provided opportunities for informal learning, intercultural dialogue and the development of linguistic and cultural awareness. By organizing educational initiatives involving participants beyond student community, UWED demonstrated the dedication to make education accessible to all.
