Representatives of Ghent University (Belgium) Visited UWED

On November 17 of this year, representatives of one of Belgium’s prestigious higher education institutions – Ghent University – visited the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. The delegation included Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and Coordinator at the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies, Fabienne Bossuyt, and Professor of the Department of Economics, Koen Schoors.
As part of the visit, the guests held a meeting with Akram Umarov, First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of UWED.
At the beginning of the meeting, Akram Umarov introduced the members of the UWED delegation to the representatives of Ghent University and provided detailed information about the university’s activities, achievements, scientific and pedagogical potential, and priority areas of international cooperation.
Ms. Fabienne Bossuyt presented the research activities, academic programs, and educational and scientific capacities of her university and team. Afterwards, comprehensive presentations were delivered to the UWED delegation on the conditions created for international students at Ghent University, exchange programs, research projects, and other relevant areas, followed by discussions on prospects for long-term cooperation.
In turn, Akram Umarov expressed UWED’s readiness for bilateral cooperation and put forward proposals aimed at strengthening and expanding strategic relations between the universities. During the meeting, he discussed academic areas such as student exchange programs and summer and winter schools, highlighting the opportunities these programs create for experience-sharing and skills development among students and faculty.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that their cooperation would continue to develop more effectively, systematically, and sustainably, and reached an agreement to strengthen and expand inter-university relations.
Additionally, guest lectures were organized by the Belgian professors for students of the Faculties of International Relations and International Economics and Management.
During the lecture, students actively asked questions about economic crises, the pressing challenges of the financial system, economic policy, and environmental requirements. They also expressed interest in educational and research opportunities at Ghent University. The professors shared their plans for future cooperation and joint educational projects.
