At the initiative of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the Department of International Law and Public Law Disciplines is holding an international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. This event is aimed at an in-depth analysis of the eighty years of the UN’s activities, its global role, and the necessity of modern reforms.

The main goal of the conference is to discuss the reform of the UN system in light of contemporary global challenges, to ensure peace and security, and to highlight the role of multilateral cooperation in the processes of sustainable development.

The conference contributes to the implementation of the initiatives put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in his address to the UN General Assembly — in particular, adapting the UN to modern realities, reforming the Security Council, and creating mechanisms for rapid response to global crises — thereby strengthening Uzbekistan’s national position on these issues.

The event brought together representatives of the UN Development Programme in Uzbekistan, both chambers of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, the Institute of State and Law under the Academy of Sciences, Tashkent State University of Law, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, as well as experts and specialists from foreign countries.

The conference discussed the outcomes of the United Nations’ 80 years of activity, its role in the modern international system, and the issues of reforming mechanisms of multilateral cooperation. Participants also analyzed the UN’s role and potential in addressing global challenges — climate change, technological and cybersecurity threats, socio-economic inequality, as well as issues related to human rights and gender equality.

During the discussions, special attention was paid to Uzbekistan’s initiatives within the UN framework, the national experience in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, and the directions for strengthening international cooperation.

We are confident that such events will become effective platforms for meaningful dialogue, the introduction of new ideas and recommendations, and will further strengthen cooperation among states, experts, and international institutions.
