On September 29 of this year, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) visited Baroness Saida Warsi, a member of the House of Lords of Great Britain, a lawyer and public figure. The guest held an open meeting with students and answered questions about foreign policy, the role of parliamentary diplomacy, youth leadership and the impact of new technologies.
The meeting in the UWED auditorium was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, UWED Rector Sodyq Safoev, First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Akram Umarov and other representatives of the administration. Opening the event, S. Safoev presented the biography and key milestones of Baroness Warsi's career, emphasizing her experience in the British government and public initiatives.
Speaking to the students, Baroness Warsi noted the importance of Central Asia on the international agenda and emphasized the practical role of parliamentary tools - cross-party groups, requests and dialogue with diplomats - to promote bilateral relations: “We, parliamentarians, can attract the attention of ministers and create platforms for meaningful conversations”.
Answering questions from teachers and students, the Baroness touched upon the topics of peaceful settlement of protracted conflicts, the importance of accountability in international relations and the value of civic participation. Addressing young people, she emphasized personal responsibility and awareness: "Start with the answer to the question “why” - when there is a goal, everything else is built. In the discussion on technology, she outlined the main challenge of the era: “How to take the best from artificial intelligence and at the same time adjust the risks”, noting the potential of AI as a tool for accessing knowledge and improving the effectiveness of learning.
