On October 31, 2026, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a lecture by Christopher Duggan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The talk focused on contemporary challenges in international relations, global issues, and the nuances of the diplomatic profession.

The lecture was held in an interactive format, centered around an open dialogue with the students. Instead of a traditional presentation, the diplomat invited participants to jointly analyze current international trends by asking questions, listening to diverse perspectives, and engaging the audience in discussion.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador invited the students to reflect on how much the modern world has changed and the crises the international community currently faces. During the discussion, the students characterized the current international landscape as a "polycrisis," in which several interconnected crises unfold simultaneously across different regions of the world, exacerbating global instability and complicating international relations.

Special attention was given to the diplomatic profession. Drawing on his own professional experience, the Ambassador spoke about the personal qualities and professional competencies required to build a successful career in diplomacy. During the discussion, students had the opportunity to reflect on the role of a diplomat in a rapidly changing international environment.

The interactive nature of the lecture allowed students not only to exchange views with a practicing diplomat, but also to demonstrate their skills in critical thinking, analyzing international events, and making well-reasoned arguments to support their positions.

The meeting served as a valuable platform for professional dialogue and helped deepen the students' understanding of contemporary international relations, global challenges, and the practical aspects of diplomatic work.
