UWED Hosts Master Class on Current Issues of International Humanitarian Law

On 24 October 2026, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a master class by Ravshan T. Khakimov, Doctor of Law, Professor at Sarbon University and Chairman of the Uzbek Association of International Law. The topic was "The UN Declaration on Development in Uzbekistan and Current Issues of Modern International Humanitarian Law". The event was held as part of the elective course "International Humanitarian Law" for fourth-year students of the Faculty of International Law. It was organized by Assoc. Prof. Sh.M. Khamdamova of the Department of International Law and Public Law Disciplines.

In his presentation, Prof. R.T. Khakimov examined how international humanitarian law (IHL) relates to sustainable development, the protection of human rights and the maintenance of peace. He stressed that IHL norms remain an effective instrument for protecting individuals in armed conflict. The professor also addressed the challenges IHL faces today. Drawing on examples from international practice, he showed how humanitarian norms are applied and what mechanisms of accountability exist for their violation.

Particular attention was given to dialogue with the students. During the master class, they raised topical questions on IHL, in particular concerning the protection of civilians, the status of participants in armed conflicts, and accountability for violations of IHL norms.

Meetings of this kind are important for training international lawyers. They help students move from studying legal norms to understanding and applying them. Interaction with leading scholars and practitioners broadens professional horizons and develops analytical thinking and argumentation skills. Such events also strengthen the university's ties with the academic and professional community.
