On May 16, 2026, the “Timurid Diplomacy Summit” was held at University of World Economy and Diplomacy. Organized under the title “The Samarkand Peace Treaty – 1404,” this historical diplomatic simulation project aimed to familiarize young people with the diplomacy of the Timurid era, traditions of statehood, and the legacy of international relations of that period.
The summit was initiated by the university’s Youth Affairs Office in cooperation with the Diplomatic Synergy Club. More than 30 student delegates, along with representatives and experts in the fields of history and international relations, participated in the event.
The primary objective of the project was to develop historical thinking, diplomatic culture, and negotiation skills among young people, while also fostering a deeper understanding of Uzbekistan’s rich diplomatic heritage within the context of contemporary international relations. During the simulation, participants represented states of the 14th–15th centuries and conducted negotiations on issues related to trade, road security, scientific exchange, diplomatic relations, and military cooperation.
At the opening ceremony, the university’s First Vice-Rector for Youth Affairs and Spiritual-Educational Work, Yusupdjanov Odil Abdugafurovich, emphasized that the project plays an important role in helping young people gain a deeper appreciation of their ancestral heritage and understand the great diplomatic traditions of Amir Temur’s era through a modern perspective. He also noted that such initiatives are essential in preparing future diplomats and specialists in international relations.
As part of the summit, several distinguished scholars and experts delivered academic presentations. Among them was Professor Sanjar Gʻulomov, Doctor of Historical Sciences and leading researcher at the Abu Rayhan Beruni Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who spoke about diplomacy and foreign relations during the Timurid era.
In addition, Professor Abdumajid Madraimov, Candidate of Historical Sciences and leading researcher at the State Museum of the History of the Timurids, delivered a presentation on the traditions of diplomatic missions and the history of peace negotiations among 15th-century states.
At the conclusion of the summit, the delegates adopted a final document entitled “The Samarkand Peace Treaty – 1404.” All participants were awarded certificates and commemorative gifts, while the most active delegates received special nominations and awards.
The “Timurid Diplomacy Summit” is gaining significance in Uzbekistan as an innovative approach to the study of historical diplomacy and international relations.
