Within the framework of the first inter-parliamentary forum “Central Asia - European Union” held in Samarkand, a number of meetings with parliamentary delegations were held.
Thus, the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodiq Safoyev held meetings with the Chairman of the Committee of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan on International Affairs, Defense and Security Aigul Kuspan, the Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan Mavsuma Muini, the Chairman of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Maksat Guliyev, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Jogorku of the Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on Science, Education, Innovative Development and Information Technology, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Saltanat Amanova.
The heads of delegations assessed the initiative put forward at the Samarkand summit on the establishment of the Central Asia-European Union inter-parliamentary forum as a timely step, stressing that this initiative clearly demonstrates the unifying role of Uzbekistan in the development of interregional cooperation.
The importance of parliamentary support and practical implementation of the agreements reached at the level of heads of state was also noted. Proposals were voiced on the institutionalization of the forum, its holding on a rotational basis and expanding the number of participants.
During the meetings, the growing interest of the European Union in Central Asia was noted and the need for a coordinated regional approach to effectively use the available opportunities was emphasized. It was emphasized that the relations of friendship, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership between the countries of Central Asia have reached a new level in recent years.
At the same time, the initiative to further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the holding of a joint event within the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on transport connectivity and environmental sustainability, was supported.
