The delegation of Uzbekistan led by the rector of UWED paid an official visit to Canada

On November 25-27, 2025, a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Rector of UWED, Sodyq Safoev, was on an official visit to Canada.
During the visit, the delegation of Uzbekistan held productive meetings. In particular, the delegation met with the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, Raymonde Gagné, and discussed the establishment of a permanent dialogue between the parliaments of the two countries, the systemic expansion of cooperation, and the promotion of joint initiatives. During the meeting with Senators S.Ataullaxjan and M. Ravalia, prospects for experience exchange in the areas of parliamentary diplomacy, human rights, gender equality, migration, and security were also reviewed.
Furthermore, the delegation held a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, F. Scarpaleggia, during which an exchange of views took place on establishing systemic ties between Uzbekistan and Canada at the level of the lower houses of parliament, exchanging legislative experience, and organizing joint expert dialogue. At the meeting in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the importance of continuing political consultations and exchanging views regarding the processes in Central Asia was underscored.
The “Day of Uzbekistan” event in the Canadian Parliament attracted significant interest from participants. The Uzbekistan delegation provided detailed information on the economic reforms being carried out in the country, changes in the investment climate, the policy of supporting women and youth, and new initiatives in the fields of green energy and innovation.
On November 27, the delegation held meetings in a number of organizations operating in Toronto. During the talks with the President of the Council of Universities of Ontario S. Orsini, the issues of establishing joint educational programs by Canada with higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan, in particular with the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, expanding the exchange of teachers and students, as well as supporting research projects were considered.
In the meeting with the leadership of the “Vector Institute”, concrete proposals were developed for cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, IT education, and innovative research, as well as for attracting Uzbekistan's youth to the sphere of modern technologies.
In addition, the delegation met with compatriots, youth, and students residing in Canada, listened to their opinions, provided detailed information on the reforms underway in the country, the international cooperation policy, and the process of working with compatriots, and discussed the proposals they put forward.
