On November 19 of this year, within the course “International Commercial Law” intended for graduating students, a master class titled “Applicability of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and its Limitations” was held with Elbek Khasanov — a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University (ranked 82nd in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world rankings), an independent researcher in comparative law and an expert at the Young Lawyers’ Public Association and with the teacher of the Department of Civil Law and International Private Law disciplines Alisher Bobonazarov.

The master class was devoted to strengthening fourth-year students’ knowledge in the subject “International Commercial Law” and to discussing legal issues concerning the importance of the United Nations Vienna Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, the conditions for its applicability, and the convention’s scope and exceptions in the context of cross-border commercial activities.

Specialists analyzed recent changes in this field — in particular, the differences and similarities in scholars’ research regarding the implementation of the Convention — and students’ personal views on the subject were heard.

This practical workshop reflects Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals: “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels,” specifically goal 16.3-“Promote the rule of law and ensure equal access to fair justice for all” and goal 16.7-“Broaden the participation of citizens, business entities and civil society organizations in the preparation and decision-making processes at all levels of governance.” In addition, it embodies the principle of promoting non-discriminatory laws and policies for sustainable development in cross-border entrepreneurial activity and ensuring compliance with those laws and policies.

This workshop not only reinforced the students’ specialized legal knowledge, but also enabled a legal analysis of the prospects for expanding the scale of cross-border commercial activity in the current process of globalization.
