On November 14 of this year, 2nd and 3rd year students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy studying Japanese took part in the annual calligraphy competition.

Calligraphy is part of intangible heritage and cultural exchange, it is an ancient art of beautiful writing, considered a type of fine art, where participants write hieroglyphs in ink on paper, using traditional tools: brush, ink, inkwell and paper.

The event was actively attended by students of Hitotsubashi University and TUFS (Japan), who spoke about the importance of the season of "momiji" in the role of the Japanese, noting that the Japanese see in "momiji" beauty, renewal and transience of life. This phenomenon is very popular, and is also known as the "sixth season" in Japan. The event was organized by the Department of Oriental Languages of the UWED.

During the event, students got acquainted with one of the most important aspects of the artistic and everyday life of Japan - the tradition of admiring autumn foliage (紅葉- momiji). Momiji is a Japanese term meaning autumn maple leaves, a symbol of the transience of beauty and the autumn season in Japan.

The participants of the event demonstrated their skills in writing hieroglyphs and used a traditional Japanese brush to write the hieroglyph 紅葉. The winners of the competition were awarded special prizes.
