Rector's Scholarship

The Rector's Scholarship is one of the university’s key internal scholarship programmes designed to identify, support and encourage talented students who demonstrate academic excellence, research potential, leadership and active participation in university life.

Who Can Apply?

Students may apply for the Rector's Scholarship if they meet the following requirements:

  • be a 1st, 2nd or 3rd-year student of UWED;
  • have studied at the university for at least two semesters;
  • have a GPA of 4.8 or higher based on the results of the last two semesters;
  • have at least one scientific article, two theses or other results of scientific or creative activity;
  • demonstrate foreign language proficiency at least at C1 level or equivalent;
  • actively participate in university life and demonstrate leadership and initiative;
  • have no academic debt at the time of application;
  • have no retake in any subject during the last two semesters.
Students who have already received other state scholarships, including the Presidential State Scholarship, Navoiy State Scholarship or Islam Karimov State Scholarship, may not be nominated for the Rector's Scholarship.

Scholarship Quotas

Up to 2 students per School
The scholarship quota is established as up to two students for each School.

A separate university-wide quota is allocated for students with special educational needs.
Additional quota
Up to 2 additional quotas may be allocated based on School Dean initiatives.

Selection Process

The scholarship is awarded through a competitive selection process.

School-level selection
At the preliminary stage, School Councils select the most suitable candidates among students with high academic performance. Each School Council recommends up to three candidates for the next stage.

Uploading documents to the digital platform
Selected candidates upload the required documents to the university’s digital platform in PDF format. The authenticity of the submitted information is checked by the relevant structural units.

Centralized testing
Candidates take a centralized computer-based test at the University Test Centre. The test includes major/specialty subjects, IQ assessment and the history of Uzbekistan.

Final evaluation and approval
The Special Selection Commission evaluates candidates based on the final ranking and determines the winners. The final list is approved by the UWED Academic Council and officially announced.

Required Documents

Selected candidates submit the following documents through the university’s digital platform:

  • academic transcript from HEMIS;
  • recommendation letter from the School Dean;
  • recommendation letter from the Head of Department or research supervisor;
  • list, annotation and copies of scientific works;
  • certificates and diplomas confirming social activity and achievements.

Scholarship Amount and Payment

The Rector's Scholarship is paid during one academic year, from September to June.

The scholarship amount is set as three times the current basic scholarship amount.

A student may be deprived of the scholarship if they violate academic discipline, research ethics or rules of conduct, or if their academic performance decreases during the current academic year.

Appeal Procedure

Candidates may submit an appeal within 24 hours after the announcement of selection results, test results or the Commission decision.

Appeals may be submitted electronically or in written form to the Office for Youth Affairs.

Appeals are reviewed by a specially established working group within three working days. New documents that were not submitted during the main application process are not accepted during the appeal stage.

UWED ensures equal opportunities for talented students with disabilities and special educational needs during the scholarship selection process.

Students with special educational needs may be provided with adapted assessment conditions, including additional time during testing and necessary technical support.

A separate university-wide quota is allocated for students with special educational needs.
