As part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Week, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Breaking Barriers: Gender Equality in Uzbekistan,” dedicated to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 — Gender Equality.
The event brought together representatives of international organizations, civil society, and academia to examine Uzbekistan’s progress in advancing gender equality, discuss persistent challenges, and identify priorities for future action.
Distinguished speakers included Caitlin Schobinger Carmody, Programme Analyst at UN Women; Khadicha Khoshimova, Programme Assistant at UN Women; and Irina Matvienko, Founder and CEO of Nemolchi.uz.
The discussions focused on strengthening women's rights and empowerment, preventing gender-based violence, challenging persistent gender stereotypes, and promoting young people's active engagement in advancing equal rights and opportunities.
The roundtable provided a platform for constructive dialogue, knowledge exchange, and stronger collaboration among international organizations, civil society, and the academic community, reaffirming the importance of collective action in achieving gender equality and the broader Sustainable Development Goals.
