    International Scientific and Practical Conference “Constitution in the Era of the Sustainable Development Goals” was held at UWED

    On December 5 of the current year, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted an international scientific and practical conference entitled “The Constitution in the Era of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Challenges and Prospects”, held in a hybrid format. The conference aimed to provide a scholarly analysis of the prospects for the development of constitutionalism in the Republic of Uzbekistan in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as to formulate scientific and practical recommendations for improving national constitutional legislation.

    Within the framework of the conference, particular attention was paid to an academic discussion of the modernization of ongoing constitutional reforms in Uzbekistan, the development of civil society institutions, and their alignment with international human rights obligations. The conference also addressed contemporary challenges in constitutional development, the adaptation of constitutional and legal mechanisms to new global tasks, the need to ensure a balance between economic growth, social justice, and environmental security during the implementation of the SDGs–2030 Agenda, strengthening the rule of law, ensuring democracy and human rights, issues of migration and the protection of the rights of future generations, as well as identifying priority areas from the perspective of modern legal doctrine.

      The scientific and practical conference brought together representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), experts from the OSCE Academy, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Center for Asian Legal Exchange (CALE) of Nagoya University, professors and constitutional scholars from various countries, international experts, leading legal scholars of the Republic of Uzbekistan, faculty members, and constitutional law specialists from several foreign states.

      During the conference, discussions were conducted in the form of presentations, meetings, and open dialogues on the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into the constitutional and legal system, strengthening constitutional guarantees of human rights and mechanisms for their implementation, the development of digital government, artificial intelligence and law, new models of constitutional review, international experience in ensuring parliamentary openness and accountability of deputies, criteria for assessing the effectiveness of local governance bodies, and the constitutional significance of gender equality and social justice principles in the context of sustainable development.

      As a result of the event, with the participation of international experts and leading legal scholars of the Republic of Uzbekistan, support was expressed for the development of relevant strategic recommendations, political and legal proposals, and scientific conclusions reflecting the Sustainable Development Goals within the framework of ongoing constitutional reforms.
