On November 25, 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted the II international scientific and practical conference titled “Innovations in Foreign Language Teaching in the Era of Globalization and Sustainable Development.” This year’s event brought together local and international experts, linguists, university professors, doctoral students, independent researchers, and students who shared their academic perspectives and practical insights.

The conference opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Akram Umarov, First Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, who emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation, advancing research in language education, and supporting innovative teaching practices.

A distinguished aspect of the conference was the participation of representatives from the Regional English Language Office (RELO) for Central Asia, based at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, and the British Council. Kim Chilmonik, Regional English Language Officer, delivered remarks during the plenary session, emphasizing current priorities in English language education, shared information about professional development resources for educators, and stressed the importance of international collaboration.

Dr. Feruz Akobirov, PhD, English Language Programs Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, contributed to the plenary session with a presentation titled “Research: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods,” offering valuable guidance for emerging scholars and researchers. From the British Council, Michael Houlgate, director of the British Council in Uzbekistan, also took part in the event, strengthening professional engagement and expanding international academic partnerships.

The conference highlighted the growing significance of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the modern global environment, where professionals across various fields rely on advanced communication skills to collaborate and access specialized knowledge. As a substantial portion of scientific and professional information is published in English, ESP instruction equips learners with essential skills to engage with academic literature, technical documentation, and research within their fields.

Dr Bakhodir Samadov also underscored the importance of high-quality interpreter and translator training, recognizing the increasing demand for qualified specialists capable of providing accurate and professional interpretation services. Furthermore, the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into foreign language teaching was emphasized as a meaningful approach to preparing learners to address global challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
