On October 29, 2025, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a master class entitled “The Importance of Combating Poverty in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The event featured Mr. Baxtishod Baxadirovich Khamidov, Head of the Group at the Agency for Quality Assurance in Education under the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a graduate of the University of Tokyo (ranked among the world’s Top 30 universities), and an executive expert for projects of the World Bank, GIZ, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The session was attended by second-year students of the Faculty of International Relations.

As an international expert, Mr. Khamidov delivered a scientifically substantiated lecture exploring the concept of poverty, its economic and social dimensions, and its role in shaping the trajectory of societal development.
He highlighted the significance of measuring poverty through relative poverty indicators, income distribution, and consumption metrics, emphasizing their importance in evaluating a country’s level of sustainable development.

The master class also included a comparative analysis of the conceptual and practical approaches to poverty alleviation in the Global South and the Global North. Mr. Khamidov provided an in-depth examination of social policy reforms implemented in the United States and the European Union, evaluating them as effective mechanisms for reducing poverty and promoting social inclusion.

In the interactive discussion that followed, students engaged actively with the speaker and received comprehensive, evidence-based answers to their questions.
The event served as an important platform for enhancing the theoretical and practical competencies of young scholars in the areas of sustainable development, social justice, and economic equality.
