    Biography Facts

    Elena Borisova is the Head of the English Language Department at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, where she oversees English-language programmes for first- and second-year students, in which English serves as a core component of the curriculum. In subsequent years, English is integrated into academic programmes, with lectures and tutorials delivered in English. She teaches ESP (English for Specific Purposes), a practice-oriented course designed to develop students’ professional competencies, with a particular focus on English for Academic Purposes, English for Political Science, and English for International Relations.

    Elena Viktorovna has authored textbooks on Diplomatic Correspondence and academic writing guidelines, specialising in teaching English for International Relations. She has been repeatedly nominated by the Iste’dod Foundation of the President of Uzbekistan and the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers. In 2016, she completed a professional development programme at the Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE), where she was named one of the winners of the national “Best English Language Teacher of the Year” competition for university instructors in Uzbekistan. She also received a prestigious scholarship from the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, representing Uzbekistan in the TESOL Exchange on Environmental Conservation and Sustainability held in Portland, Oregon, and Tampa, Florida—an international programme bringing together specialists from twelve countries to promote Sustainable Development Goals in environmental and sustainability education.

    Beyond teaching, Elena’s expertise includes translation, interpretation, and teacher professional development. She has completed numerous advanced training programmes, including: a course in simultaneous interpretation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Seoul, 2014); professional development at NILE, UK (2016, 2018); the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCERT) at Westminster University in Tashkent (2016–2017); and professional development at MGIMO University in Moscow (2018). In 2024, she participated in the TESOL Exchange on Environmental Conservation and Sustainability in Portland, Oregon, and the TESOL International Convention in Tampa, Florida.

    Her research interests cover learner-centered pedagogy, translation and interpreting studies, and the methodology of teaching ESP and EAP. Elena Borisova has been awarded the diplomatic rank of Attaché by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
